14.Experimental Research on Bionic Self-healing Concrete: Efficiency Improvement Schemes and Long-term Operation and Maintenance Value Analysis

Click:

“ Self-healing concrete can automatically repair structural micro-cracks and improve building durability, which is an advanced functional building material in the future. This paper summarizes the experimental data of capsule type and microbial bionic self-healing systems, analyzes the current problems of low repair efficiency and poor environmental adaptability. It proposes targeted efficiency improvement schemes and analyzes the long-term economic and engineering value of self-healing materials ”

1. Current Experimental Research Achievements
Bionic self-healing concrete mainly includes microbial self-healing and capsule chemical self-healing two technical systems. At present, a large number of indoor experimental studies have verified that the self-healing system can automatically induce repair reaction after concrete cracks, fill micro-cracks with generated calcium carbonate or gel materials, and restore the structural compactness and impermeability of concrete. The bionic self-healing mechanism simulates the self-repairing function of biological tissues, which can effectively solve the problem of micro-crack expansion in the long-term service process of concrete structures and delay structural aging and damage.

2. Existing Technical Bottlenecks
In the process of experimental verification and preliminary engineering trial, self-healing concrete has obvious popularization bottlenecks. The microbial self-healing system has strict requirements on temperature and humidity environment, and microorganisms are easy to lose activity in high temperature, drought and strong erosion environment, resulting in failure of repair function. The repair capsule is easy to be damaged in the concrete mixing and pouring process, with low survival rate. In addition, the high preparation cost of self-healing materials and unstable long-term repair efficiency restrict its large-scale commercial application in engineering projects.

3. Efficiency Upgrade and Optimization Direction
Aiming at the defects of the existing self-healing system, the future optimization direction is to develop composite bionic self-healing technology. Adopt modified protective capsule carrier materials to improve the survival rate of functional materials during mixing and pouring. Optimize microbial strain adaptation and develop high-temperature and salt-alkali resistant microbial systems to adapt to extreme overseas construction environments. Build a multi-mechanism collaborative repair system of microbial induction + chemical filling to improve crack repair speed and repair completeness, and realize efficient and stable automatic repair of structural cracks.

4. Long-term Operation and Maintenance Value
Self-healing concrete can significantly reduce the frequency of manual detection and repair of building structures, reduce the later operation and maintenance cost of infrastructure, and extend the service life of buildings. For overseas coastal, desert and other harsh environment projects, it can effectively resist structural crack damage caused by environmental erosion, avoid repeated maintenance and renovation, and create long-term stable economic benefits. The derived self-healing repair mortar and grouting materials can also form serialized functional products for overseas building maintenance markets.

Conclusion

Composite bionic self-healing systems effectively solve the environmental adaptability and efficiency bottlenecks of traditional self-healing concrete. This functional material realizes automatic structural protection of concrete, greatly reduces the full-life cycle maintenance cost of global infrastructure, and has broad industrial promotion prospects.
